Parenting with Love

We all know parenting is difficult, even yet, scary. But in this world, there is no such thing as a "perfect" parent. What we can do is try and provide our children with love. So, let's talk about loving ways to interact with your children.

Loving ways to interact:

  • Positive Discipline: Positive discipline is a way of teaching and guiding children by letting them know what behavior is acceptable in a firm yet kind way. For more information on this topic, see the handout.
  • Be Present: Spend uninterrupted time with your children.
  • Include Them: Asking your children what they would like for dinner or allowing them to be a part of the grocery shopping experience by letting them choose appropriate items.
  • Cuddles and Hugs: Offer cuddles and hug your children often.

Here are some examples:

  1. Play together. Let your child lead the playtime. This shows you are interested in what they like.
  2. Eat together with no distractions of the t.v.
  3. Go outside for a walk or a trip to the park.
  4. Ask your children about their day.
  5. Try a kid-friendly recipe to do together. See the next page for a fun recipe to do.
