WIC participants receive a CA WIC card to purchase specific foods each month that are designed to supplement their diets. The foods provided for are high in one or more of the following nutrients: protein, calcium, iron and vitamins A and C. These are the nutrients frequently lacking in the diets of the program’s target participants. Some of the foods offered are: milk (or soy), fruits and vegetables, beans or peanut butter, whole grain foods, eggs, infant foods and cereals and more.
